At a glance
- MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader, Match-Trader, DXtrade and TradeLocker are separate platforms with separate credentials and integrations.
- Platform availability is decided by the broker or prop firm and can vary by product and country.
- TradeLocker says it is a platform provider, not a broker or prop firm; the firm manages account terms, funds and trading conditions.
- Do not infer a firm's quality, regulation or payout reliability from the platform logo.
Platform comparison
| Platform | What to consider | Compatibility checks |
|---|---|---|
| MetaTrader 4 / MT5 | Familiar charting, indicators, Expert Advisors and platform-specific automation | MT4 and MT5 are not interchangeable; confirm exact server, symbols, EA support and current provider availability |
| cTrader | Charting, order tools, depth-of-market and cTrader-specific automation | Confirm cTrader account access, cBots/automation permissions and regional restrictions |
| Match-Trader | Web-based trading interface and provider-specific integrations | Check available desktop/mobile workflows, account types and copier support |
| DXtrade | Platform and broker/prop integrations vary by deployment | Check the firm's exact DXtrade environment, symbols, order types and supported devices |
| TradeLocker | Chart-first interface, TradingView chart integration and trading tools | TradeLocker credentials do not log into MT4, MT5, cTrader or Match-Trader |
Platform is not the same as the prop firm
TradeLocker explains that it supplies a trading interface, charting and execution tools, while the broker or prop firm provides and manages accounts, funds, trading conditions and permissions. Its help centre also states that it does not regulate brokers or prop firms.
This distinction matters when evaluating a firm. A recognisable platform can be used by many unrelated businesses. The platform logo does not prove that a firm is solvent, regulated, independently certified or contractually reliable.
Match the platform to your workflow
- If you rely on an existing EA, verify the platform and language compatibility before buying.
- If you use custom indicators, check whether the platform supports them natively or requires a conversion.
- If you trade from mobile, test the exact app and order-management workflow.
- If you use a copier or VPS, read both the platform's technical documentation and the prop firm's policy.
- If you trade futures, verify the data feed, routing, front end and exchange products; a CFD platform comparison is not enough.
- Check country-specific restrictions before paying.
A note on industry adoption statistics
Third-party platform adoption studies use different firm samples, detection methods and dates. They are not a census of all prop firms and should not be read as a quality ranking. PropCoupons does not publish a platform market-share percentage unless it can reproduce the sample, coverage and collection date.
Frequently asked questions
Does using MT5 mean a prop firm is regulated?
No. MT5 is trading software. Regulation, legal status and account terms are separate questions about the provider.
Can I use MT5 credentials on TradeLocker?
No. TradeLocker states that MT4, MT5, cTrader, Match-Trader and TradeLocker are separate platforms with separate credentials.
Which platform is best for prop trading?
There is no universal best. Choose based on instruments, charting, automation, device support and the firm's exact account configuration.
