Prop Firm Copy Trading Rules: What You Can and Cannot Copy

“Copy trading allowed” is too broad to be useful. A firm may permit copying between accounts owned by one trader while prohibiting third-party signals, account management, or copying into a funded account. The direction of copying and account stage both matter.

At a glance

  • FundingPips permits copying between your own accounts and outward copying from a FundingPips lead account to an external follower; inbound external copying is prohibited.
  • FundedNext CFD rules permit limited copying between qualifying challenge accounts owned by the same individual, but prohibit arrangements involving a FundedNext funded account.
  • Blue Guardian’s published CFD model rules allow copy trading only between accounts legally owned by the trader.

The questions to ask before using a copier

  • Are both the master and follower accounts legally owned by you?
  • Can the funded account be the master, the follower, both, or neither?
  • Does the firm allow an external broker or another prop firm as a follower?
  • Are cloud-based copiers, VPS copiers and local copiers treated differently?
  • Does the firm require proof of account ownership or strategy ownership?
  • Do the rules differ between challenge, instant and funded stages?

Why “same strategy” is not always enough

Some firms distinguish between copying your own trades and replicating another person’s decisions. A group of traders using the same signal or synchronized entries may be treated as third-party copying or coordinated trading even when each person places the trades manually.

Do not share account credentials or allow another person to manage the account unless the firm explicitly authorizes it in writing.

Practical recommendation

Before purchasing, save the current copy-trading policy for the exact product. If a rule is unclear—especially around funded accounts, external followers or copier software—ask the firm for written confirmation and keep the response. A generic “copy trading allowed” badge is not enough.

Frequently asked questions

Can I copy trades between my own prop firm accounts?

Some firms allow it, but limits differ. FundingPips allows own-account copying under its policy; FundedNext CFD rules are narrower and prohibit copying involving a FundedNext funded account.

Can I copy trades from a signal provider?

Do not assume so. The cited FundedNext and FundingPips policies prohibit copying from third parties or inbound external sources.

Can I copy from my prop firm account to my personal broker account?

FundingPips explicitly allows its account to act as the master for an external follower. Other firms may differ, so check the provider-specific policy.
